Adventure Racing Gear List

We provide all canoes, PFDs and paddles for the races, however your team is welcome to bring their own PFDs and Paddles. Please make sure the paddle gear is secure in a paddle bag with team name. We will be transporting all gear and want to ensure no lost items.

Provided Canoes are 14ft Old Town (Saranac 146) with seat-backs and built -in center seat

Provided Kayaks for Solos are 10ft TrailBlazer 100 sit-in with seat-back.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY - You and your team are responsible for carrying suitable and appropriate equipment, clothing, and sustenance for the climate, conditions, and activities in any ARGEORGIA race. This Mandatory Equipment List is NOT a list of the only items you should take. It contains the mandatory things that you and your team must carry with you, at specified times, to meet minimum safety requirements by law, prevent and/or treat some potential injuries, and short-term survival purposes (for example a seriously injured team member, in a stationary position, overnight in bad weather). It assumes your team members will not separate during the race and that you may share between members the mandatory equipment that must be carried. You will undoubtedly need additional equipment, clothing, food, and drink to participate in the event.

 

6–12 Hour Races

Mandatory Team Gear

Carried by the team at all times during the race.

•Copy of the rules, race instructions, and maps.

•Compass

•Cell Phone

•Permanent Marker

•Knife

•First Aid Kit: Adventure Medical Kit: .5 kit or similar or larger. www.adventuremedicalkits.com (or build your own kit as long as the contents are the same) At least 3 meters of duck tape (Roll it around a small stick. An entire roll is not required. Many uses including temporary wound care).

Mandatory Individual Gear

Carried by each team member at all times during the race.

•Backpack with all required gear and must be with racer at all times

•Whistle

•Two (2) Liter Minimum Hydration Capacity

•Any Person Medications: Sample- Epi-pens are required for individuals with an Epi-pen prescription.

Mandatory Individual Bike Gear: Carried by each team member at all times bike sections.

•Bike (Mountain Bike highly recommended though bike with fat tires will suffice. Other bikes are acceptable though most times riding conditions strongly favor mountain bikes)

•Bike Helmet and (1) Flashing light on the back of the bike for road safety.

Paddling Gear

PFDs must be worn at all times during the paddling section.

•Individuals can use personal paddles and life vests in races. (It may be required to carry during a portion of the course depending on details provided at check-in) Team paddle bag for your own gear. We supply canoes, paddles, and PFDs and will transport these items during the race. 

 

18–48 Hour Races

Mandatory Team Gear

Carried by the team at all times during the race.

•Copy of the rules, race instructions, and maps.

•Compass

•Lighter or Waterproof Matches

•Glow Sticks for placement on canoes, backpacks, helmets, and paddle gear. (2 per person and 2 per canoe.)

•1 Bivy or Adventure Medical Kits SOL Emergency Blanket

•Water purifier or water purification tablets for the entire team – teams should be prepared to acquire water from wild sources such as creeks or hoses

•First Aid Kit: 24-hour race: Adventure Medical Kit Ultralight .7 (or build your own kit as long as the contents are the same) At least 3 meters of duck tape (Roll it around a small stick. Entire roll not required. Many uses including temporary wound care).

•27-Gallon or less bin with a lid is required for team's extra gear, food change of clothes, Etc. Not carried by the team during the race. Race staff will transport during the race. 40lb weight limit. (1) per 1-3 person teams and (2) for four-person teams. 

Mandatory Individual Gear

•Backpack with all required gear and must be with racer at all times.

•Head Lamp

•Batteries to last through nocturnal aspects of the event. 

•Survival blanket (Solos may use the SOL Emergency Blanket from Team Gear)

Mandatory Individual Bike Gear

Carried by each team member at all times bike sections.

•Bike (Mountain Bike only)

•Bike Helmet and (2) Flashing lights on the back of the helmet and bike. Teams may also be required to wear bike helmets during some paddling sections of the race. 

•Bike Front White Light (Headlamp acceptable)

•Bike repair tool, CO2 or pump, and tube.

3-Day Expedition Races

(Sea to Sea & Expedition Colorado)

Mandatory Team Gear

Carried by the team at all times during the race.

  • Cell phone in a waterproof or zip lock baggie

  • Spot Tracker (Provided by ARGEORGIA) During O-relays, the teammate that is heading out on the relay must carry the tracker during this section. 

  • Pen (suggest Nite-Ize Inka water & freeze-proof pen)

  • 1 Lighter or waterproof matches

  • 8 Zip ties (minimum of 8” length)

  • 2 Compasses

  • UTM Ruler

  • Glow Sticks for placement on canoes, backpacks, helmets, and paddle gear. (2 per person and 2 per canoe.)

  • Waterproof strobe light for placement on canoes or kayak. 1 per solo or teams of 2-3. Teams of 4 (which use two canoes) must have two lights per team.

  • Water purifier or water purification tablets for the entire team – teams should be prepared to acquire water from wild sources such as creeks or hoses

  • Survival Mirror

  • 1 Bivy or Adventure Medical Kits SOL Emergency Blanket

  • Adventure Medical Kit Ultralight .7 or build first aid kit containing the following contents:(8) 2x2 or 3x3 sterile dressing, (2) 3x4 non-adherent sterile dressing, (1) conforming gauze bandage, (4) 1x3 adhesive bandage, (3) knuckle adhesive bandage, (1) tape ½"x 10 yards, (1) swift wrap elastic bandage, (8) 200mg. Ibuprofen, (2) antihistamine (Diphenhydramine), (2) afterbite sting relief, (1) moleskin, (5) towelettes, (3) antibiotic ointment, (1) tincture of benzoin, (3) butterfly closure bandage, (2) pair nitrile gloves, (1) tweezer, (3) safety pins, (1) duct tape (2) alosak.                                       

Mandatory Individual Gear

  • Backpack with all required gear and must be with racer at all times

  • Headlamp with batteries to last a total of 72 hours.

  • Race organization provided number or bib to be worn and visible over other clothing and on bikes.

  • Space Blanket (Solos may use the SOL Emergency Blanket from Team Gear) 

  • Waterproof jacket (sealed or taped seams)
    *ultra-light, water-resistant 3 oz. jackets will NOT satisfy this requirement

  • Shell Layer Bottom (Pants) The shell/ outer layer pants must be waterproof and windproof as specified by the manufacturer.

  • Mid-Layer Top (Fleece) This mid-layer top is used between the base layer and shell layer to provide additional insulation in cold environments. Long-sleeve top of synthetic or wool fabric.

  • Base layer Head (Beanie)

  • Knife

  • Reflexive Bike Triangle from Amazon. Place them on the bike                            frame or backpack facing behind you.  

  • Any Person Medications: Sample- Epi-pens are required for individuals with an Epi-pen prescription.

  • 27-Gallon or less bin with lid is required (per racer's) extra gear, food change of clothes, Etc. Not carried by the team during the race. Race staff will transport during the race. Must be from Lowes and 40lb weight. Mandatory Individual Bike Gear

Carried by each team member at all times bike sections.

  • Mountain Bikes Only (No Cyclocross or Road Bikes)

  • CPSC Certified Bike Helmet. Teams may also be required to wear bike helmets during some paddling sections of the race.

  • Front lighting system - must be mounted on handlebars. (Teams may wear headlamps, but they must also have a light mounted to the handlebars)

  • (2) Flashing red tail light mounted on the bike and another on the back of your helmet. 

  • Bike repair tool, CO2 or pump and tube.                

 

Paddling Gear

PFDs must be worn at all times during the paddling section.

  • Race management will provide Canoes, double blade paddles & PFD's. You may bring your own paddles and your own PFD's- Type III or higher, non-inflatable. The Canoes provided by race management have 3 seats. If you bring your own paddles or PFD's you will be required to provide a paddle bag (Texsport Zipper Canvas Duffle) that is marked with your team name for all of your paddle gear. 30lb weight limit.  No food or extra in paddle bags due to animals at TA locations. 

 

Prohibited Items
  • GPS devices. Includes devices that show your position, display maps, distance traveled, etc (excludes GPS SPOT trackers provided by race). Watches in (AR Mode) are excepted; however subject to review by race staff to ensure the AR Mode is active the entire race. Penalties apply if the watch is found out of AR mode at any time and any awards or cash prizes will not be available at any time found with a watch out of AR Mode.

  • Distance measuring devices such as foot pod accelerometers and pedometers. (cycle computers exempt)

  • Mobile phones, radios, other communications or internet access devices, etc (excluding the compulsory emergency phone.

  • Maps other than those provided by the organizers.

  • Firearms, night/nocturnal vision devices
